Why a customer's tap doesn't open the card

Updated

If a customer taps the NFC and nothing appears, the cause is almost always the phone's settings or where they tapped. Work through these checks in order.

  1. Check NFC is on

On iPhone XS and later, NFCs are read automatically while the screen is on. On an iPhone 7, 8 or X, open the NFC Tag Reader in Control Center first. On Android, open Settings, search for NFC and turn it on.

  2. Tap the right spot

Hold the top of the phone flat against the NFC for a second. Thick or metal phone cases can block the signal, and so can metal under the NFC.

  3. Unlock the phone

Many Android phones only read NFCs while the screen is unlocked.

  4. Try Counter QR

Open Counter QR and ask the customer to scan it with their camera. If the scan works but the NFC never does, the NFC may be damaged: replace it.

Still not working? If they already have a card, scan it from Scan a card in Tenth Cup. Otherwise, so the customer doesn't lose out, add the stamp by hand from their page under Customers.
